A Custom Tech Gift That Feels Personal: Your Artwork Checklist

By Modexa

Turn a favourite photo, name or illustration into a custom phone case or laptop sleeve, with a practical checklist before ordering.

Start with the person, then choose the product

A personal gift does not need a complicated design. Think about something the recipient uses every day: a phone carried to work, or a laptop packed for classes. A favourite place, a pet portrait or a short message can give an ordinary accessory a personal connection. Choose the phone case or sleeve first, because its shape determines the space available for the artwork. Keep the idea focused on the recipient rather than filling every corner.

Confirm the fit without guessing

For a phone case, get the exact phone model before starting. Similar names and screen sizes are not enough to establish that a case will fit. For a sleeve, check the laptop's outside dimensions against the selected sleeve's measurements. If the gift is a surprise, ask someone who can confirm the device details. A design that looks wonderful cannot compensate for the wrong size, so settle this part before spending time arranging the artwork.

Use the original photo where possible

Start with the original photograph or artwork rather than a screenshot of it. Look closely at faces, lettering and small details at the size you intend to print. If the original already looks soft, enlarging it will not reveal missing detail. Keep a separate copy before editing, and use artwork you own or have permission to reproduce. Check the customizer's current upload requirements instead of assuming every product accepts the same file settings.

Compose around edges and camera openings

Place the most important part of the design where it remains clearly visible in the selected product preview. On a case, pay particular attention to the camera area. On a sleeve, inspect the edges and the printable area shown in the editor. Leave breathing room around names and faces rather than pushing them against a boundary. If a preview offers multiple views, check each one after changing the product model or sleeve size.

Give short text a careful proofread

A name, date or brief phrase can make the design feel finished without competing with the image. Read it once for spelling and again for meaning. Check capital letters, punctuation and any accent marks that matter to the recipient. Ask another person to read it if the message is important. View the complete design at a smaller size as well: attractive lettering should still be easy to understand without zooming into the preview.

Review the order as a complete gift

Before ordering, check the selected model or size, the artwork position and every line of text together. Review the delivery information and the policies that apply to a personalized item, especially if the gift is needed for a specific date. Do not assume a standard accessory's delivery or return terms automatically cover a custom order. Save your original files and order details so you can explain exactly what you selected if you need support.
