How to choose the right laptop sleeve size

Learn why screen size alone is not enough: measure your laptop, compare sleeve dimensions and check the fit before ordering.
Screen size is only a starting point
A laptop advertised as 14 or 15.6 inches is described by its screen diagonal, not the width of its body. Two laptops with the same screen size can have different bezels, thicknesses and overall dimensions. A sleeve size label helps narrow the choices, but measurements are the better fit check.
Measure the closed laptop
Close the laptop and measure its width from side to side, its depth from front to back and its thickness. Record all three in the same unit used by the product listing. If you use a protective shell, measure with that shell attached. Include any protruding feet or edges that affect the fit.
Compare usable dimensions
Look for the sleeve’s internal or usable dimensions. External dimensions include fabric, seams and padding and do not tell you exactly how much space is inside. Compare all three laptop measurements with the sleeve information. If the listing gives only an inch label or does not explain the measurements, ask for clarification before ordering.
Aim for a secure fit
A sleeve should close without forcing the zipper or pressing hard against the laptop. Too much spare space can let the device move around; too little can strain the seams. Do not assume stretch fabric will make an undersized sleeve suitable. Follow the fit guidance supplied for the particular product.
Think about how you carry it
If the sleeve will go inside a backpack, consider the combined bulk of the sleeve and laptop. Keep chargers, plugs and other hard objects separate from the laptop surface. Check the actual product description for padding and material details rather than assuming a sleeve is waterproof or designed for drops.
